My very first published piece of creative writing The Election can be found in College of Charleston’s Undergraduate Literary and Arts magazine, Miscellany!
The Election follows mayoral candidate Arthur Washington who lives in the small town of Liberty. On the day of the town’s Election Arthur finds himself thinking of his brother Miller, a former maytory by the gothic works of Shirley Jackson along with the history of democracy and election in areas around the world. This piece was also heavily influenced due to it being written during an integral election year that left me with anxiety on what would be the outcome.
Overall, The Election is a story of love, loss, liberty and the dangers of all of them.
